Public Speaking Lecture for Students of Kyiv National University
The traditional lecture by Mykola Ovcharov, founder of the John F. Kennedy Institute of Rhetoric, took place at the Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. This year, against the backdrop of loud political events, the lecture attracted interested future journalists and PR specialists in the topic of oratorical mastery and political rhetoric.
What practical examples did the lecturer share?
Mykola Ovcharov worked with politicians from the Ukrainian government for six years. He accumulated many stories and memories that he was able to share as examples for students. Such experience allowed him to reveal the specifics of working with political figures and the particularities of their public communication.
Ovcharov also detailed Steve Jobs' presentation technique. Analysis of the famous entrepreneur's speeches helped students understand the principles of effective business communication and modern approaches to conducting presentations.
How long did the lecture last and what was its format?
The public speaking lecture lasted over two hours. The previous lecture at KPI lasted over three hours. Such duration allows not only transmitting theoretical knowledge but also the demonstration of practical techniques, as well as answering students' questions.
The interactive format of the lecture promotes better material absorption and allows students to receive personal advice on developing oratorical skills.
What is the mission of the Institute of Rhetoric's educational events?
Lectures by leading trainers of the John F. Kennedy Institute of Rhetoric traditionally take place in schools and universities. Our task is to maximally promote the development of mastery and culture of public speaking in Ukraine.
Such educational activity helps prepare a new generation of specialists who will possess a high level of communication skills. This is especially important for future journalists and PR specialists, whose professional activity is directly related to public communication.
