Several Tips on How to Develop Imagination and Creativity

Every speaker needs to develop their imagination and figurative thinking. These are precisely the forms that create visualized arguments which are so effective in public speaking. In training sessions, I regularly encounter people with limited imagination and absent figurative perception of the world. And this is a completely normal phenomenon. This needs to be developed.

What types of art develop figurative thinking?

Read fiction, preferably classics. It is in classics that the foundations of figurative worldview are laid. That's why it's taught in schools. It greatly develops thinking and logic. Classical literature teaches us to see the world through the prism of images and metaphors.

Visit exhibitions in museums of traditional and contemporary art. Although it's surprising, both contain the primordial figurative form of ideas. Pay special attention to works that stand out from the general background of paintings and installations. They help develop the ability to see the unusual in the ordinary.

How do cinema and writing influence the development of imagination?

Watch films, especially short films and art house cinema. Directors are always looking for creative solutions to problems and present them in films. If you learn to decipher them, it will become easier for you to create verbal forms – phrases and thoughts.

Write a lot, record all your impressions, keep a blog. This will teach you to present information you've learned in beautiful form. Regular writing trains the ability to transform abstract thoughts into concrete images and formulations.

What else will help develop figurative perception?

Be attentive to everything that happens around you. Observation will develop an artist in you who notices what others don't see. Learn to find unusual details in everyday life – these will become the foundation for vivid images in speeches.

Developing imagination and creativity is a long-term process that requires constant practice. But the result is worth the effort: a speaker with developed figurative thinking is capable of creating speeches that not only inform but also inspire, leaving a deep trace in the memory of listeners.

I wish you success in developing your creative abilities!
